First time flyer?! Can I bring this on a plane?

Next week I am going on a 3 night trip to Las Vegas. My friend and I are flying on Delta airlines from Chicago O'hare to Vegas. We decided not to bring any luggage to be checked and only bring carry on. I've NEVER been on a plane before and am a little unsure about this....Everything we're brining could fit in carry on Im pretty sure....Would I be able to bring a hair straightner on the plane with me??? Any tips would be great!
